Edward LaRose is a photographer who works in black and white film. He holds a degree from Montserrat College of Art 1997. He freelanced as an artist and educator before becoming a graphic designer and photographer for Jazz record labels in the Tri-state area. The birth of a child with disability in 2010 required a commitment that was incompatible with the deadlines of freelance work. Edward’s advocacy and care for his son became the center of his life. During the covid 19 pandemic he left the art world and went into the field of nursing. He later became a registered behavior technician and now works full time providing care for children on the autism spectrum. What remains of the artist is the photographer. His method is minimalistic. He shoots on just one camera (a Rolleiflex 2.8c with a fixed Carl Zeiss 80mm 2.8 lens from 1953). He develops each roll of film by hand and scans or prints film negatives in the darkroom. His darkroom came together over several years and many miles. Each piece of equipment was purchased used or given to him from fellow photographers. His subject matter is portraiture and urban landscape.
